•           Douglas Coupland is fascinated by new technology in Player One. He uses terms like iPhones, cameras, Youtube or social networks. In chapter one, Karen curses new cameras that people – especially young people like the teenage boy – have always with them capturing photos of anyone. These cameras capture time and memories that we will never watch, left into drawers. However, she likes new technology too. For example, she invents the verb ''to click'' – reference to the social network Facebook – to say ''to like'' as a joke or she uses social networks to meet men thinking she has an advantage because she has a daughter so it is easier for her to attract single fathers and her « divorce offers another commonality not shared by the perpetually single ». Finally, Karen says « Modern technology be damned » and I agree with her perspective. Modern technology controls our minds and lives.

  •         The Internet makes part of our lives as if we can not live without. We have access to the Internet everywhere anytime (laptops, tablets, phones...). For example, when Rick does not how to make a drink and wants to look it up in a book, the woman – Karen – at the bar says to him : « I'll google it on my thingly ». Google is useful because it allows to know instantly everything. In a certain way, we don't need books anymore. Nevertheless, we still buy books. I think it is because we trust books more than the Internet. We have read books since the invention of writing because it is the universal knowledge (Exple : The Encyclopedia) and reading a book enables to escape from the everyday life, the worries (Exple : Novels). Moreover, the Internet is very stressful because we find too many things which can be true or false without really find out what we searched at first. We are lost in the ''Google Jungle''.

  •        Luke thinks the Internet is a real problem that came out of nowhere with online gambling debts, porn websites and so on. He can't use the word ''sins'' to describe those things because people just watch their screens. It is an artificial world which is worse ! People are disconnected from the real world, they are « away from reality ». They do not have social life anymore.
